Independent Arbitrator

I serve as sole arbitrator and on three-member tribunals, and welcome appointments from institutions and from parties across all my sector areas, and under all arbitral rules and seats.

In my role as arbitrator, I am dedicated, approachable and service-driven. I appreciate the reasons that parties have elected to resolve their disputes through international arbitration, and constantly strive to deliver on those expectations.

I have both common law and civil law experience, and work with clients in several European languages, in arbitrations seated in diverse jurisdictions. Given its predominance in contracts, I am usually appointed as arbitrator in English language arbitrations or where the substantive governing law of the contract is (or includes) English law.

Counsel in arbitration

As counsel, I am the trusted advisor to several major corporations and have led teams to success in cases individually worth billions of dollars. I work closely with my clients to devise the optimal strategy at the outset to achieve the best resolution of their disputes. I am also experienced in co-counselling with other law firms and overseas lawyers and assisting in-house teams and legal counsel of states. I am appointed for my sectoral expertise, creative solutions to difficult problems and in-depth knowledge of the arbitral process and institutions.

Advisory work

Project advisory and dispute avoidance
It is not just about resolving disputes, it’s about preventing them in the first place. After all, the best dispute is the one that never happens. I advise companies running major projects, often in high-risk jurisdictions, on how to minimise risk at the contract formation stage, and as a project unfolds. Minor issues are resolved before they become major. Business relations evolve intact.

Negotiations
I undertake negotiations with commercial and state parties and avoid protracted formal disputes for my clients, achieving “win-win” solutions which allow continuity of profitable relationships.

Investment protection & treaty planning
Investments in overseas jurisdictions can be protected through treaties and investment laws, and I advise companies on tools which empower them should issues arise down the line.

English law/ contractual advice
I provide clients with English law opinions and advice on points of law and business-critical questions of contractual interpretation including force majeure, price escalation and revisions, delay and contract termination.

Need a team?

As your chosen counsel, and should a case require, I would be happy to work with or as part of your in-house team, or build a team if necessary.

I have arrangements in place with leading barristers sets in the UK, and a network of trusted overseas lawyers, to add team members whether junior, mid-level or more senior. This flexibility offers a tailor-made proposition best suited to each case.
At DK Arbitration, the use of technology and virtual tools improves our service to clients and value proposition.

The service you receive at DK Arbitration will always be bespoke and tailored to your particular matter.
Invoicing is clear and fair and rates are significantly more attractive than at larger arbitration practises.
